New Industrial Estate to Strengthen Infrastructure, Generate Employment in J&K: Omar Abdullah

Chief Minister highlights the importance of industrial investment, improved infrastructure and employment opportunities in Jammu and Kashmir's economic development.

JAMMU, Oct. 28: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has highlighted the role of industrial estates in strengthening infrastructure, attracting investment and generating employment opportunities in the Union Territory.

The development of industrial infrastructure is intended to create space for manufacturing and other business activities while supporting economic growth and expanding opportunities for local entrepreneurs.

Industrial estates can provide businesses with access to essential facilities, including roads, electricity, water supply and other common infrastructure. Such facilities can help reduce the cost of establishing industrial units and make investment more attractive.

For Jammu and Kashmir, the expansion of industrial activity is particularly important because of the need to create employment opportunities beyond traditional sectors such as agriculture, horticulture, tourism and government services.

The project concerns a new industrial estate at Barsoo in Ganderbal district, for which the Jammu and Kashmir Government has granted administrative approval at an estimated cost of ₹17.24 crore.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described the approval as an important step towards strengthening the Union Territory's industrial infrastructure and creating new employment opportunities.

The proposed estate will be developed with modern infrastructure and essential facilities intended to support entrepreneurs and encourage industrial investment.

The government expects the project to provide opportunities for local businesses, attract new industrial activity and create jobs for young people.

The development is also expected to contribute to sustainable industrial growth and economic development across Jammu and Kashmir.

The administrative approval represents an initial step towards implementation. Details of the construction schedule, number of industrial units to be accommodated and projected employment figures have not been announced.

The project's eventual contribution to the local economy will depend on the timely development of infrastructure, the establishment of operational industrial units and the ability to attract sustained private investment.

For Ganderbal, the proposed estate represents an opportunity to expand the district's industrial base and create additional avenues for entrepreneurship and employment.
