Fact-Checking Policy

Every article published by Himalayan Observer goes through an editorial check before publication. This page describes that process.

Before publication

  • The reporter verifies the facts in the story against primary sources wherever possible: official documents, records, statements and data.
  • Names, titles, figures, dates and quotations are checked against their source.
  • Claims made by governments, organisations, political parties or individuals are attributed to them, not presented as established fact.
  • Material from social media is checked for its origin, date and context before it is used.
  • An editor reviews the story for accuracy, fairness, attribution and clarity before it is published.

Developing stories

When a story is developing, we publish what we have verified and update the article as more is confirmed. Updates are timestamped.

Content produced with AI tools

Drafts or images produced with the help of AI tools receive the same checks as any other material, and an editor must approve them before publication. See our AI Policy.

After publication

If an error is found after publication, we correct it under our Corrections Policy.
