SRINAGAR, Oct. 3
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday expressed grief over the death of a person in a bus accident in Ramban district and directed the administration to ensure the best possible medical treatment for passengers seriously injured in the crash.
Sinha conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the accident.
The Lieutenant Governor said he had spoken with the Deputy Commissioner of Ramban to review the treatment being provided to the injured.
Several seriously injured passengers were shifted to Government Medical College Jammu for specialised treatment.
Sinha said those admitted to GMC Jammu would receive the best possible medical care.
The accident occurred on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district and involved a passenger bus carrying tourists from West Bengal.
One passenger was killed and dozens were injured in the crash. A rescue vehicle carrying police and Central Reserve Police Force personnel subsequently overturned while responding to the accident, leaving nine security personnel injured.
The twin incidents left one person dead and 56 injured, including the security personnel.
The Lieutenant Governor’s statement focused particularly on ensuring adequate treatment for those requiring advanced medical care after the accident.
The district administration and medical authorities have been asked to provide necessary assistance to the injured and their families.
Ramban lies along one of the most challenging stretches of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which passes through mountainous terrain and serves as the principal road connection between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country.
Saturday’s accident prompted an immediate rescue and medical response, with the seriously injured subsequently referred to Jammu.
Sinha said the administration was monitoring their treatment and assured that necessary medical assistance would be provided.
He also expressed solidarity with the family of the person who died in the accident.
The immediate focus remains on the recovery of the injured passengers receiving treatment following the crash.
