JAMMU, Oct. 6
The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a fireman posted with the Fire and Emergency Services in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district after he was allegedly caught accepting a ₹15,000 bribe for processing a no-objection certificate for a hotel in Katra.
The case was registered following a complaint alleging that the fireman had initially demanded ₹40,000 for processing and issuing the Fire and Emergency Services NOC required for the hotel.
According to an official communique, the amount was subsequently negotiated and the accused allegedly agreed to accept ₹15,000.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and caught the fireman while he was allegedly demanding and accepting the agreed amount from the complainant.
The arrest followed the recovery of the alleged bribe during the trap operation.
The case concerns the processing and issuance of a Fire and Emergency Services NOC for a hotel in Katra, a key requirement linked to fire-safety compliance.
The CBI has not disclosed the identity of the arrested fireman or provided further details about the hotel or the complainant.
The agency said further investigation is underway.
