Asian Games 2026: India Win Historic Women’s Recurve Archery Gold, Medal Tally Rises to 67

AICHI-NAGOYA, Oct. 2

India made a strong start to Day 13 of the Asian Games 2026 on Friday, winning a historic gold medal in the women’s recurve team archery event as the country’s overall medal tally climbed to 67.

The Indian women produced one of the standout performances of the morning, defeating South Korea in the final to claim the country’s first Asian Games gold medal in the women’s recurve team event.

The victory was particularly significant given South Korea’s longstanding dominance in international archery.

India had earlier overcome China in the semifinal to secure a place in the gold-medal contest before completing the campaign with victory over the world champions.

The result took India’s medal tally at the Aichi-Nagoya Games to 11 gold, 23 silver and 33 bronze medals, for a total of 67. India was placed seventh in the medal standings at the time of the latest update.

The early gold provided momentum on a day that could produce several more medals for the Indian contingent.

Attention will also be on the recurve mixed team competition, where India has another opportunity to challenge for a medal.

Boxing remains one of India’s biggest medal prospects on Friday, with three fighters reaching their respective finals.

Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain is among those competing for gold, alongside Parveen and Ankush. India had already secured six boxing medals from 11 events, with the three finalists now seeking to convert their campaigns into Asian Games titles.

Wrestling provides another set of opportunities, with Dipanshi, Priya, Rajat Ruhal and Sujeet competing across women’s and men’s freestyle categories.

India will also look for a significant result in sepaktakraw, where the men’s quadrant team has reached the semifinal stage.

The biggest team contest later in the day will come in women’s hockey.

India will face China in the gold-medal match, giving the women’s team an opportunity to finish an impressive campaign with the Asian Games title.

India reached the final after defeating South Korea 2-0 in the semifinal.

The women’s hockey final adds to a strong finish to the Games for Indian hockey. The men’s team has also reached the gold-medal match after surviving a dramatic semifinal against Pakistan.

India defeated Pakistan 4-3 on Thursday after withstanding a late fightback to advance to the final.

Friday’s medal opportunities come after India entered Day 13 with 64 medals, comprising 10 gold, 22 silver and 32 bronze.

The women’s recurve team gold, along with subsequent additions to the tally, lifted the overall count to 67 during the morning session.

India’s campaign had gained considerable momentum earlier in the week, particularly through archery and shooting.

The compound archery teams delivered a clean sweep of three team titles, while the shooting contingent also added gold and other medals.

The recurve women have now extended India’s success at the archery range by delivering a title of particular historical significance.

India still has several major events remaining on Friday, making the medal count fluid through the day.

The three boxing finals and women’s hockey gold-medal match are among the most prominent, while archery, wrestling, cycling and sepaktakraw could further alter India’s position in the standings.

With the Games scheduled to conclude on October 4, every medal is also increasingly important to India’s final position in the overall table.

Friday began with one of the campaign’s most significant archery results. India’s women overcame China and then South Korea to secure their maiden Asian Games recurve team gold, giving the country its 11th gold medal at Aichi-Nagoya.

The focus now shifts to whether India can turn its remaining finals and medal opportunities into another major surge before Day 13 concludes.
